When it comes to new building construction, there is lots of buzz these days over the idea of heating (and cooling!) with efficient electric sourced heating, such as air or ground source heat pumps, instead of using fossil fuels like natural gas or propane.

From an environmental standpoint,  using efficient electric  heating makes sense.  But the business case has been more elusive – What does it cost the developer to use heat pumps instead of fossil fuels?  And what are the cost impacts on the homeowner or resident?  Is it really economic – for the developer and homeowner  -  to use heat pumps instead of propane or natural gas?

Taitem Engineering, an Ithaca based engineering firm with nationally recognized expertise in green building practices,  proposes to do a study to help answer these important economic questions – and we need your help to make it happen!!

Thanks to generous donors we’ve got $10,000 waiting in the wings – but the donors want to see that the community supports this project too.   Please help us raise the last $5000 so that Taitem can get started on this important work!
